Film Club Idea

I sent an email to my friend Lola today asking how she might feel about a film club organized by people interested in getting together in groups and critically analysing a specific film each month. Perhaps it could be aligned in some way with the monthly Screen One selection, or of a film suggested by alternating members of the group. I think it could be something like a book club set up, however instead of a novel or piece of literature a group of people will discuss after reading it, it would be a film. But it would have to be with the intention of going into the discussions as critical thinkers, not simply fans of movies. Nor will debates be useful. Group members would be encouraged to tolerate differing opinions and ideas from other group members on filmic texts, with the hope of potentially learning something from the discussion, even though there is no pressure to take another's side. You get the just of it. Academically charged, free thinking, socially conscious unmastery at work. I think this could be fun. We shall see how this develops.
